In this episode, Dan interviews two first gen college graduates, Thien & Queena, about their experiences & opinions on commuting versus living on campus.

  • Thien graduated from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Thien talks about how normal commuting was for him and also how he wonders how his college experience would have been different if he had lived on campus.

  • Queena graduated from Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina. Queena talks about her experience living on two different college campuses (Rutgers & Davidson) as well as her experience living off campus at Davidson. Dan and Queena tease out some of the pros and cons from each experience.

Both Thien and Queena emphasize the choice to live on or off campus is specific to the person, although it is often a major financial choice first gens have to make. In either scenario, there are some advantages and disadvantages, and it’s important to make the choice that makes the most sense to you.
