Episode 82: Women we admire - A parent helping parents understand the college journey

Fellow first gen and parent Blanca reflects on her educational journey and how that led to her life’s mission of helping other parents understand the college journey

In this episode you will hear:

  • Blanca who talks about the information gap that she and her parents had as a first gen college student. This has led her to make it her mission and purpose in life to empower other parents through knowledge. She has an honest conversation about the obstacles she faced in her own family and how she practiced what she preached with her own son who did not want to go to college originally.  In the end, both her and her son graduated at the same time!

Over the years I make sure that everything that I’ve learned, I make sure that the parents know because it is the NOT knowing what really gives disadvantages to underserved communities.
— Blanca
