In this episode, Norma interviews two amazing women who navigated the complexities associated with being first generation college students while being phenomenal mothers and role models to small human beings.

  • Julissa who is a phenomenal human being talks about her journey as a teenage mother, what it was like navigating college as a first generation college Latina, and what it is like to be a Phd Student-Mother. Julissa concludes with a beautiful image of walking across many graduation stages with her daughter as an acknowledgment that her degrees have been with and for her daughter. 

  • Melissa shares her inspirational story of perseverance by taking one class at a time until she finally reached her goal of becoming a first generation college student after seven years. She discusses how she kept her goal in mind as she was raising her children and never gave up. She received her college diploma when her oldest son was a freshman in college.
